Florida Fugitives Caught

The two men who escaped from a Putnam County jail earlier this week are back in custody. A Florida Sheriff says the two men will be charged with murdering a 66-year-old woman just hours after the breakout this week.

They were caught in Pomona Park in the northern part of the state. The Sheriff's Department reported in a press conference Saturday that a citizen called police about a mysterious car. Deputy's identified the green ‘98 mercury stolen in Tennessee. Reports also claim the two fugitives tried calling a family member, and that allowed dispatchers to track their location.

The Putnam county sheriff's office says two deputies tackled the men during a foot chase. According to reports ABC 27 received earlier, the men were thought to be in Kentucky but they did come back to Florida. "The U.S. Marshalls had put these guys in their top 15 which opened up some tremendous resources to track them down across the United States," said Lt. John Greenwood of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. "Why they would come back to Putnam County, is an unknown. I'm just glad that we've got them in custody."

The two men will be charged with murder in the death of Helen Googe, who was found dead after their escape early Wednesday.    They also face an escape charge.
