GENEVA, Ala. (AP) - Law enforcement in Geneva say they've charged a Florida inmate with a murder that occurred nearly 15 years ago.
A capital murder warrant was recently served on Patrick Cochran at a prison in Graceville, Fla. The indictment charges Cochran with brutally beating R.J. McKenzie with a fire extinguisher and fatally stabbing him at the victim's home on Dec. 23, 1994. The victim was 68 and Cochran was 19 at the time.
Geneva County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Tony Helms said the slaying was not a random act of violence and that the two were acquaintances.
Cochran is serving a 10-year sentence for lewd and lascivious battery against a child 12 to 15 years old out of Holmes County, Fla. It was not clear if he had a lawyer Tuesday.
