Rachel Hoffman; Family Wonders Why

Tallahassee Police aren't saying much about a drug sting that went horribly wrong. A young woman working undercover with police was found dead in Taylor County. Police were lead there by the men they say killed her.

Tallahassee Police Chief Dennis Jones said Hoffman was working in a diversion program after she was charged with multiple drug crimes including dealing ecstasy, running a drug house and possession of marijuana.

Chief Jones says they struck a deal with Hoffman that she would go undercover for them and some of the charges could be reduced. Wednesday night, the night she disappeared Rachel was supposed to meet with Andrea Green and Denelo Bradshaw at Forest Meadows Park to buy ecstasy, cocaine, and a firearm.

Johnny Devine, Hoffman's attorney, said, "There are about a hundred questions I have. 100 questions her family has.  And they begin with why."

Rachel Hoffman was working undercover with the Tallahassee Police department as a drug informant.

Chief Dennis Jones said, "Let me make a note it is not uncommon for known drug dealers or users offer to assist police in narcotics investigations, Rachel was no exception."

Rachel was facing multiple drug violations including dealing ecstasy and running a drug house. The attorney working for her on those charges says he never knew about her deal with police, he says had he, he would have discouraged it.

Mr. Devine also added, "The benefit does not out weigh the risk and if you want an example why this would be a reason why."

Police say Wednesday night Rachel was supposed to meet with two men Andrea Brown and Denelio Bradshaw in the Forest Meadows Park on Meridian Road to buy drugs and a firearm that night she would disappear.

Chief Jones went on to say, "Tallahassee used established protocol to ensure safety of Rachel during this operation. Unfortunately she chose to ignore precautions established in a previous briefing.

Chief Jones says Hoffman left with the men and was later found dead, adding, "The choice to leave and meet Green and Bradshaw ultimately led to her murder."

Investigators with FDLE say Rachel was shot on Gardner road near a construction site not far from the park where she met the men. Friday morning police say those men led investigators to her body in a wooded area in Taylor County.

That news devastated her lawyer.

Devine finished off with a tearful explanation, "My job as her lawyer is to protect her any way I can not just in the court room. My job is to try to keep her out of harms way. I didn't have that opportunity here because I didn't know. I didn't know."

Hoffman's accused killers are being held in the Leon County jail facing charges of armed robbery, kidnapping, and murder.

Hoffman's attorney says right now the family is busy planning Rachel's funeral. He didn't say anything else about future plans.
