Florida A&M University FAMU Police Department arrested Teria Coverson, a FAMU employee, for allegedly stealing $55,344.

She was arrested the morning of January 23, 2008, on charges of grand theft.

"We have a zero tolerance for this kind of behavior," said FAMU President James H. Ammons.  "It is important that we have a system and process in place to make sure that we are able to uncover these kinds of discrepancies.  We want to be accountable for every dollar.  I commend the Division of Audit and Compliance and the FAMU Police Department for conducting a thorough investigation."

In October of 2007, the FAMU Division of Audit and Compliance began a review of the cash management practices at the FAMU Pharmacy Clinics which are located at 872 Orange Avenue and 438 West Brevard.  Upon completion of its audit, the Division discovered that numerous cash deposits did not reflect true and accurate deposit amounts in relation to actual amounts received by the clinics.

Coverson, an administrative assistant and an employee for nearly five years, was identified as being responsible for the alleged discrepancies that resulted in unaccounted cash and checks of $55,344.  This matter was subsequently referred to the FAMU Police Department.  The University has begun the process of terminating Coverson's employment.
