GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office is warning parents about the dangers of human trafficking and abduction.

GCSO said with the uprise around the country about human trafficking and abductions, they want to urge parents to educate their children about stranger dangers when walking to and from school or even to the corner store.

GCSO advises:

1. NEVER talk to strangers or get into a vehicle with someone who they do not know.

2. Pay more attention to their surroundings when walking and not so much on their cell phone texting.

3. Walk in groups or with an adult. (Develop a CODE word)

4. If approached by a stranger run the opposite way and make noise (kick, scream and shout) scream to draw attention to yourself. (run to a neighbor or to a business)

5. Watch for vehicles that slow down while passing you or approaching you.

6. If you miss your bus, go to the office or stand near others who are waiting.

7. Always carry important contact numbers with you.

8. If their are parental disputes, make the children aware of the other parent who may not have legal permission to have them. (strangers aren't always strange)

9. If it doesn't look or feel right, it probably isn't right. Pay attention to their gut feeling about people they don't know.

10. NEVER take money, food or gifts from people they don't know. (different tactics are used to lure children)
