TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A woman is facing criminal charges after police say she lied about being kidnapped at gunpoint and held prisoner by her ex-boyfriend in Tallahassee.
Gladys Perkins was arrested on Monday and charged with giving a false report to law enforcement.
According to a complaint document, Perkins came into the Tallahassee Police Department on February 7, 2018 and explained that she had seen her ex-boyfriend on Feb. 1 at the Walmart on Apalachee Parkway.
She told police that her ex held her at gunpoint and forced her to drive to his apartment. Once there, Perkins said he ex assaulted her and forced her inside where he held her captive for two days. During that time, Perkins told police that her ex had starved her and brutally beat her.
On Feb. 4, Perkins said that she called her fiance who convinced her ex that he was at her grandmother's home in Havana.
The ex forced Perkins to drive there while Perkins' fiance called the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office to report the kidnapping. However, according to Perkins, the ex refused to let the deputy talk to anyone, so the deputy left.
The next day, Perkins said she convinced her ex that she was ill and needed to go to a clinic. Once there, she snuck out of a back door and called a friend to pick her up.
Once back in Tampa with her fiance, Perkins called the Tampa Police Department to report the kidnapping but she was advised to report the incident in Tallahassee.
Investigators note that Perkins did not look injured, despite saying that her ex brutally beat her multiple times.
However, an investigation revealed that Perkins had been willingly texting her ex since January. In fact, on Feb. 1, evidence showed that Perkins picked up her ex from his attorney's office and after, the two spent several days together.
In a sworn interview, the ex said that he and Perkins went to the clinic on Feb. 5 because he had gotten ill.
On the way there, they were arguing about Perkins being engaged, so the ex ended his relationship with her. When the ex came out from the clinic, Perkins was gone and had gone back to her fiance.
The ex also provided paperwork of the clinic visit to police.
Documents go on to note that Perkins also filed two separate injunctions related to the incident.
One of them was filed on Feb. 5 against her fiance because he was physically and verbally violent to her during a break up on Jan. 17.
The other was filed against her ex on Feb. 7 for assaulting her and threatening her family. In this injunction, Perkins failed to mention being kidnapped.
After a lengthy investigation, police determined that Perkins had falsely accused her ex of kidnapping her and "completely fabricated a report to police" that could've imprisoned her ex for the rest of his life had he been convicted.
Based on the findings, a warrant was issued for Perkins arrest on March 31. She was taken into custody on Monday and has since gotten out on a $1,000 bond.
