GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - For the first year ever, Grady County is painting the whole town blue, calling on the community to come together for National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Monday night, members from the Department of Family and Children Services, local leaders, and state employees joined together for a ceremony.
Sekema Harmon, the state of Georgia assistant division director was the speaker at the ceremony.
Harmon says until getting into her position now that requires her to read through every incident report involving a child, she never knew the size and magnitude of child abuse in Georgia.
"Our children deserve it, we don't need to have one more child die because we haven't done all that we can do to help and change that," said Harmon. "Our children deserve that."
Officials say right now there are currently 40 kids in foster care in Grady County and 17 active cases.
