LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - It was an early start to Wednesday morning for people in Tallahassee, all in line for the FarmShare food giveaway.

This was the Leon County Sheriff's Office's fourth time hosting the giveaway of fresh produce with frozen chickens and non-perishables, all for free.

It's all thanks to a partnership between LCSO and FarmShare.

The goal Wednesday morning was to feed 400 families.

"Citizens are coming in thanking the deputies for the great work that they are doing. They're acknowledging the fact that there are needs out there," said Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil. "There are a number of persons who are retired, on fixed income, and this FarmShare steps into the gaps to meet those needs that our citizens have."

Sheriff McNeil says the flow of Wednesday morning's giveaway was smoother than other events, thanks to a record number of deputies on-hand to volunteer.
