LIBERTY COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - In an effort to show strength and patriotism in the face of hardship, the Liberty County Sheriff's Office is challenging its citizens to re-purpose the county's wood palates into U.S. flags.
Due to Hurricane Michael's strong winds, the sheriff's office says the majority of citizens' flag poles were damaged or torn down. Because of the crews currently working in the area, they say it'd be difficult to repair them.
However, the supplies pouring into the county have created a "huge volume" of wood shipping palates that could be re-purposed into our nation's symbol of strength.
"The idea is that you procure one that has been discarded and repurpose it into a U.S. flag. This will allow you to be flexible with its placement on the short term," the sheriff's office wrote in a Facebook post. "I can think of no better family project than one that shows strength and patriotism in the face of hardship."
They ask that residents send a photo of their work upon completion so they can share it on their page.
The sheriff's office says pallets should be in all the areas where the Points of Distribution (PODS) were located. They may possibly be in the dollar store and other area stores. Residents need to ask before you grabbing them.
