TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - People who live at The Commons say change is needed to make the complex safer.

"I try not to be here too much because I don't want things to happen to me," said Blessing Eno.

Eno has lived at The Commons for six months. She's already learned to stay inside if she wants to stay safe.

"If I feel like I avoid the situations and avoid the people involved in it at the apartments, then I feel safe," said Eno.

The Commons has been a crime scene before. Two men were arrested for shooting cars there Thursday  night. Last year, two people were shot  at a pool party.

According to the Tallahassee Police Department's online statistics, there have already been 21 calls for service at the complex this year. Some are for minor issues like noise complaints, but many are for more serious crimes like burglary, battery and aggravated assault.

Residents expressed their concerns in some recent online reviews. Other residents tell WTXL they see a lot of people coming in and out that they don't think actually live there. That's why they want to see more security measures put into place.

"There's a security guard that can watch the entrances, but [there's] not too much security," said Eno. "It would be safer for automated gates so people could get in the building and out of the building."

One of the complex entrances is gated off, but anyone can drive right through the other one. Management said they could not give us any details about security improvements they plan to make in the future.
