TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A group of south Floridians gathered in the Capital City to protest the building of a new gas plant.

Florida Power and Light is seeking approval from the Florida Public Service Commission to build a fracked gas plant in the Dania Beach community.

The New Florida Majority, an organization dedicated to increasing the political power of marginalized citizens, brought members from this south Florida community to speak out against this proposal.

Many of them feel that FPL did not communicate with, or get input from, those living in Dania Beach.

But the problems with this proposal don't stop there.

As an extra effort to prevent this fracked gas plant, the New Florida Majority dropped off more than 8,000 comment cards from the Dania Beach community to Gov. Rick Scott on Wednesday.
