TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The newest release of an annual study by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found startling numbers for chlamydia in Leon County.

According to the study, the number of reported cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphillis increased by 48 percent from 2012 to 2016.

The Leon County Department of Health is collaborating with community based organizations to implement a strategic plan to decrease those numbers.

"We've implemented the EPT which is, Expedited Patient Therapy," said Dale Harrison, Regional STD Program Manager. "And this is actually where their practitioners now can write prescriptions for more than one sex partner or to people who actually test positive so their sex partners can actually be treated also."

The study was released this week and is based on data from 2015.
