CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) - There are concerns in Cairo over the water quality at schools.

This was as students headed back to class on Thursday, one day after they were sent home due to a water pipe break.

Water quality has not been approved by the city although water pressure is back after a water pipe broke Wednesday.

According to Grady County Schools, the district has provided students with water bottles and told parents and their children that water is not safe to drink from water fountains, but restrooms are up to full working capacity.

Tilda Brimm, Assistant Superintendent of Grady County Schools, said parents shouldn't be worried and the school district is watching the students carefully.

"We know that our students are monitored and that we will be checking and double checking to make sure that students are not allowed to drink any of the water," said Brimm.

Brimm expressed to us that student safety is the number one concern and that the district follows a specific plan to make sure students are safe to go back to school.
